김민정은 장소 특정적인 영상작업을 해오고 있다. 모니터 화면 안에, 혹은 프로젝터가 투사되는 화면 안에서만 존재하는 것이 아니라, 전시장 공간 자체에 녹아드는 영상작품이라고 할 수 있다. 작가는 작업 전, 우선 전시할 장소를 꼼꼼히 관찰하고 답사한다. 그 장소의 특성을 파악하고 본인의 작업방향과 매치되는 요소를 탐색한다. 사실 전시공간이란 작품을 돋보이게 해주기 위한 배경과 같은 곳으로 별다른 특징을 찾아내기 쉽지 않은 곳이지만, 작가는 그 하얀 배경 안에서도 벽과 벽 사이 틈, 문의 실루엣 등의 작은 디테일을 살려 작가만의 감각이 녹아든 작품을 만들어낸다. 이번 전시에서는 전시실에 존재하는 문과 벽난로를 소재로 하였다. 숨쉬는 문은 하얀 전시실 안에 조용히 자리하고 있는 문을 소재로 한 작품이다. 작가는 실재 문과 똑같은 모양으로 이미지를 제작하여 문이 숨쉬는 듯한 느낌으로 영상물을 만들고, 그 문의 옆 벽에 투사한다. 평소 쓰이지 않고 그저 잠겨있는 벽과도 같은 이 문이 작가의 작업을 통해 생명력을 얻는다. 또한 유연한 정물은 전시장 내의 벽난로 위에 정물 이미지들을 투사한 작품으로 이 이미지들 역시 아래로 흘러내리는 느낌으로 연출된다. 적막하고 건조한 느낌의 전시실이 작가의 작업으로 새롭게 태어나며 초현실적인 분위기를 연출한다.

Min-jeong Kim Artist has been carrying out visual video image works with the focus on 'specific spot'. The visual video image works do not merely exist in a screen and monitor screen in which projector is projected but also are assimilated into the space of exhibition hall itself. In this regard, the artist begins to perform art works after making the precise observations and explorations on the exhibition space. Specifically, the artist studies characteristics of the local place and searches for elements fit for art works that the artist intends to do. Actually, it is not easy to find out specific characteristics of the exhibition space, where is associated with the setting to make art works conspicious. But, the artist strives to use specific elements, such as the gap between wall and door silhouette against the white background and complete a unique sentiment-oriented art work that the artist has. In this exhibition hall, door and fireplace of exhibition room were selected as the main materials. The breathing door is featured as the art work choosing a material of door, where is sat still in the white exhibition room. The artist designs images identical with the shape of real door, and inspires the vivid breath into the door and then, projects the visual video image through wall next to the door. Such as this, the door, which is locked and treated as static wall, hardly used is brought to life through the artist's work. Also, flexible and still life object is the art work which projects the image of still life on the fireplace in the exhibition room. Such images are expressed as the vivid and dynamic tints, as well. Therefore, the lonely and dry-tinted exhibition hall is reborn as a new art work by the artist, and evokes up the superelastic feelings.
